CROSSROADS OF REALITY

SCULPTURE/ WALL PIECES

"YELLOW VERTICAL"
66"H X 18"W X 18' D
ALUMINUM AND POWDERCOAT
ABOUT "YELLOW VERTICAL"

This sculpture is constructed of a high density aluminum and powder coated with a yellow pigment making it very resistant to weathering.
Having executed a public sculpture for the associated students at CSUF, in steel and watching it deteriorate, I wanted to produce sculpture with color and materials that would resist the elements.
"Yellow Vertical" is a test piece that looks as good today as it did four years ago when I made it.

ABOUT "BLUE RIDGE'

This piece is an example from a series of sculptural wall constructions that I executed from around 1985 until about 2001 or 2002.
I became interested in combining traditional techniques with nonobjective painting and sculpture for a while , but ultimately, separated the two approaches. I find validity in both.
Painting and drawing from life or photo's is actually far more "abstract" to me than "abstract" art which in many ways is far more "real".

ABOUT "RESONANCE"

As I mentioned, this piece combines my concerns for representational painting with nonobjective, sculptural, elements.

By the way, I shot the photo for this painting from the roof of a parking structure in downtown L.A. just before playing a gig there, with the band I was with at the time.
