CROSSROADS OF REALITY

PAINTINGS 2

"Crossroads" 50"x60" o/c
ABOUT “CROSSROADS”

This painting combines a sky that I appropriated from a Dutch landscape painting and a photo I took in Kansas. I had written a song that I called “Where the Highway meets this Road” and was looking for an intersection similar to this.
I feel that this is a good theme, tied into Robert Johnson, and the blues, that I probably will deal with again.

ABOUT “BLUE TRUCK”

I took the photo for this painting on a road trip with some friends in San Pedro. I like the way the camera cropped the image, and the wear on the surfaces.

ABOUT “BLUE HIGHWAY”

This painting is 5'x20'. The scale is intended recreate some of the experience of being on the open road. The landscape depicted is a section of eastern New Mexico heading toward the panhandle of Oklahoma.

I feel the concept of this piece is connected to the ideas of painters like Morris Louis and Jules Olitisky as well as Fredric Church and Thomas Cole. It is a portable experience that requires space, time, and good lighting, to appreciate.
