THOUGHTS ON PAINTING
Looking back on the history of art and all of the “isms”, I have read about artists who found themselves creating and then summing up their own personal styles.
Others found some cause or human condition that propelled them.
I spent a lot of years trying to catch up, to create something of my own, ultimately, realizing that I never could be Picasso or Jackson Pollock or anyone else but me.
I learned a lot thru the process of working in different ways and emulating artists I admired. I am a big fan of education. It helps to know when your copying and whether or not you're really being original. (If that is really an issue.)
In any case, I'd like to believe that my art comes from a real place and is honest.
When the writers are gone, and time passes, what remains, hopefully, is the work.
Perhaps someone someday will look at one of my paintings and, without knowing all of the issues of today, will simply enjoy the experience of seeing it.
In the meantime, I simply enjoy the process of creating it, the experience of seeing it, and the anticipation of the next painting.

Thought for the day:
I've been thinking of how much fun art and music is if I don't think about success or failure, who's hot and who's not, or worry about fame and fortune. It's pretty simple: Paint and play music with the same excitement and energy as when I first started and let the muse take me where it will.
None of the rest of it matters.
